Why KYC is required

KYC stands for “Know Your Customer”. UK Gambling Commission licence conditions require online casinos to confirm your age and identity before you gamble, and anti-money-laundering (AML) law requires them to know where money comes from and goes to. These checks also help protect players: they stop under-18s from gambling, prevent people using stolen cards, and support safer-gambling interventions.

When you register, Spinbob runs an automatic electronic check using your name, date of birth and address. If it can confirm you straight away, you may never be asked for paperwork until a later trigger, such as your first withdrawal, a new payment method or higher deposit levels.

Mobile phone bills and screenshots of online statements are sometimes accepted, but a PDF downloaded from your bank or a paper bill is safest.

How to upload your documents

  1. Log in to your account and open Account → Verification.
  2. Choose the document type you are uploading: identity, address, payment or source of funds.
  3. Take a clear photo or select a file (JPG, PNG or PDF). Upload both sides of a driving licence or ID card.
  4. Submit and wait for the status to change to “In review”.
  5. Watch your email for approval or a request for something else; check spam folders too.
  6. Re-upload if asked, using the same Verification area so everything stays on one file.

Photo tips for a first-time pass

  • Place the document on a dark, plain surface in good natural light.
  • Get all four corners in the frame; do not crop edges.
  • Avoid flash glare on laminated cards and passports.
  • Do not edit, filter or annotate the image (except hiding card middle digits).
  • Make sure the document is in date and the name matches your account exactly.
  • Upload the whole page of a bill or statement, not just the address block.

Review times

Most reviews are completed within 24 to 72 hours. Uploads at weekends or during busy periods can sit at the longer end. If your status has not changed after 72 hours, ask live chat to check your file. Verifying straight after registration, rather than waiting until you want to withdraw, is the easiest way to avoid delays later. Our withdrawal problems guide explains how KYC holds affect payouts.

Source of funds and affordability checks

At certain net deposit levels, UK operators must run financial vulnerability and affordability checks. Sometimes these are light-touch checks using public credit data that you never notice; at higher levels you may be asked for evidence such as recent payslips or bank statements. This isn’t an accusation. It’s a legal duty to make sure gambling is affordable for you. If you would rather not share financial documents, the casino may limit your deposits or pause the account until the check is complete.

ℹ️ Set your own limits too

You can set daily, weekly and monthly deposit limits in your account at any time. Lowering a limit takes effect immediately; raising one involves a cooling-off period. See our responsible gambling page.

Data security

Your documents contain sensitive personal information, so UK-licensed operators must store them securely, restrict who can see them and keep them only as long as the law requires, in line with UK GDPR. Upload documents only through the Verification area inside your account, never through social media or an unsolicited email. UK-facing casinos must hold a UK Gambling Commission licence — check the licence details shown in Spinbob’s site footer against the Commission’s public register before you deposit. Our privacy page explains how this guide handles data.

Frequently asked questions

How long does verification take?+

Document reviews usually take 24 to 72 hours. The automatic age and identity check at registration often completes in seconds, so many players are only asked for documents later.

Can I play before I'm verified?+

No. UK rules require age and identity verification before any play, including free-to-play demos on licensed sites. If the automatic check fails, you must upload documents first.

Why do I have to show my bank card?+

It proves the card is yours, which protects you from fraud and satisfies anti-money-laundering rules. Hide the middle digits and cover the CVV on the back.

Why was I asked for payslips or bank statements?+

That is a source of funds or affordability check. UK operators must check that gambling is affordable at certain deposit levels, so it is a routine regulatory request.

Is my data safe?+

Licensed operators must store your documents securely and use them only for verification and legal compliance, in line with UK GDPR. You can ask about retention in the privacy policy.
